The recital is just around the corner, and we wanted to send some information regarding costumes, makeup, hair and masks that you can reference for both dress rehearsal and the show!
COSTUMES:
Costumes should remain in the garment bag provided to you until dress rehearsal.
TIGHTS:
There should be tights for your dancer in their garment bag. Dancers will wear pink tights for ballet and tan tights for tap or jazz.
TUTU:
If your dancer has a tutu as part of their costume we ask that you hang it upside down from a hanger by the leotard portion of the costume. This keeps the tutu fluffy and not wrinkled. If you see that your costume is particularly wrinkled you may choose to steam it.
LABEL EVERYTHING:
If your dancer is in multiple numbers and potentially multiple shows, please label each costume so that everything is organized for them to find in between quick changes.
Please do not send anything backstage that can stain your child's costume. This includes colored drinks or food, markers, makeup, etc. Feel free to send activities for your child to do backstage. However, please do so with caution, as we are not responsible for lost items. You might want to send a blanket to lie down on the floor for your child to sit on.
SHOES:
Please make sure that your dancer's shoes fit! Many of our Combo level dancers are growing quickly and have had to borrow shoes at the studio lately because they do not have shoes that fit their feet. We won't be able to provide anyone with shoes to borrow for recital. Additionally, please do not send your dancer with extra clothes or shoes that are not needed. This can get confusing especially for our younger dancers or dancers in multiple numbers.
HAIR:
All dancers will wear their hair in a low ponytail with a center part. This includes ballet classes. I have attached two links for how to do this hairstyle if you need a resource for reference.

MAKEUP:
We always recommend some makeup for dancers so that they don't get washed out on stage under the lights. That being said, we don't require a certain level of makeup, and is up to you. We highly recommend mascara, blush, and lipstick for minimum coverage. Lipstick is not necessary for dancers wearing traditional masks on stage. For other dancers wearing lipstick, it would be best to choose a lipstick that will not rub off (such as lipsense or something similar) since all dancers will be wearing a traditional style mask backstage. Dancers in multiple numbers may consider a setting powder or spray to lock in their makeup as they are dancing and sweating more.
MASKS:
We have a couple of options regarding masks for recital. Please note that ALL audience members will be required to wear masks in the theater and ALL dancers will be required to wear masks backstage. THIS IS THE POLICY OF OCCC FOR ALL PEOPLE IN THEIR BUILDING.
You do have an option for masks when it comes to their actual performance on stage.
1) The studio has purchased clear, half-face shields for dancers to wear so that their face will be visible (see picture above). From afar, the mask is barely visible, and is a great option for stage performances.
2) If you would prefer your dancer to wear a traditional face mask, please choose a mask in a neutral color (see option #2 or 3 pic below for suggestions / examples)
3) If your dancer is a Two-Tu, Combo 1, Combo 2 or Combo 3 aged dancer (ages 2-6), please look out for additional information regarding masks.
